Step 1: Use the whole page for the portrait by lightly sketching the composition.

Using charcoal to fill in the background shapes.

Use your finger to blend in the charcoal.

Step 4

Start introducing charcoal to the face hair and neck, blend with fingers and continue until all detail is added to create a dramatic expressive drawing.
